Removing and Preventing Barriers
This accessibility plan has been created in line with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
At Camino Wellbeing + Mental Health, we’re doing more than meeting compliance requirements—we’re listening to our employees, clients, and community members to guide how we make our spaces and services more inclusive.
Here’s how we’re shaping our plan:
- Accessibility audits were completed for 480 Charles Street before Camino’s unification.
- Equity survey data from 2024–2025, after unification, helped us better understand the needs of those we serve and work with.
- The data shows that about one-quarter of both client and employee respondents identified as living with a disability.
These insights helped us identify the action items below—real steps we’re taking to reduce barriers and increase accessibility.
1. Information and Communication
We want everyone to understand the information we share, no matter how they learn or communicate.
Here’s what we’re doing:
- Reviewing our signs
We’re checking all signs at our locations to make sure they are clear and easy to read.
(Status: Not started) - Updating our sensory kits
These are tools like noise-cancelling headphones or fidget items that support people with sensory needs.
(Status: Not started) - Adding screen displays in reception areas
We plan to install screens to show updates, services, and messages in a visual way.
(Status: Not started)
2. Customer Service Standards
We’re making our buildings and equipment more accessible to everyone who visits or works with us.
- Updating all 6 automatic door openers and washroom alarms at 480 Charles
We’re reviewing washroom doors and alarms to make sure they work well and are fully accessible.
(Status: Not started, Dependent on funding) - Improving front entrances and washroom accessibility at 645 Westmount
We'll update front door openers, alarms, and accessible entry points.
(Status: Not started, Dependent on funding) - Enhancing fire alarm systems at 480 Charles
We hope to add both visual and sound alerts, depending on available funding.
(Status: Not started, Dependent on funding) - Improving front counter access at 400 Queen and 645 Westmount
We're planning updates to allow for easier access at our reception counters.
(Status: Not started, Dependent on funding)
3. Employment
We want Camino to be a place where all employees feel supported and included.
Here’s what we’re doing:
- Creating a plan for accessibility in the workplace
We’re setting up a process to keep accessibility goals front and center in our planning.
(Status: Not started) - Reviewing training and supports for employees
We’ll look at what supports are currently in place and find ways to improve.
(Status: Not started)
4. Design of Public Spaces Standards
This covers outdoor and public areas such as paths, seating, or ramps.
- No changes planned at this time
We will review and update this plan if any construction or renovation happens unexpectedly.
(Status: No action item currently)
What’s Next?
We are exploring a multi-year Accessibility Action Plan to continue our progress from 2026 to 2029. This long-term plan will help us set clear goals and track how we’re doing over time.
